Practice Supervisors invited to influence the design of the Practice Supervisor Development Programme

PSDP Focus GroupsResearch in Practice (RiP) is inviting Practice Supervisors to participate in focus groups to inform the design of the Practice Supervisor Development Programme. 

The Practice Supervisor Development Programme (PSDP) is a Department for Education funded initiative. It is intended to enable Practice Supervisors to develop the knowledge, skills, personal resilience and confidence to effectively undertake their role of supervising, supporting and developing excellent frontline practice with children and families. The course is intended to reach approximately 700 newly appointed Practice Supervisors.

In order to ensure that the PSDP responds to the sector’s needs and builds on existing activity, three focus groups are being held across the country.These are exclusively for Practice Supervisors to influence the design of the programme. Places are limited, and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

The focus groups are an important part of the scoping phase, alongside surveys, literature and policy reviews. We want to ensure that learning needs, barriers and enablers to accessing Continuous Professional Development (CPD), and the reach, strengths, impact and cost-effectiveness of existing CPD is fully understood. Principal Social Workers (PSWs), practitioners, supervisors, senior managers and workforce development leads across the children and families social work sector can also participate in the survey.  

The focus group sessions will take place as follows:

  • Tuesday 19 June, Preston
  • Tuesday 26 June, Birmingham
  • Thursday 28 June, London
