Good social work practice with carers and their families

11 June 2018

Carers WeekCarers Week is raising awareness of the 700,000 young people who provide unpaid support to a friend or relative who is suffering from a disability, illness or mental health condition.

Research in Practice (RiP) has developed resources to support young carers and their families, and professionals who work with them. This includes a joint RiP and Research in Practice for Adults (RiPfA) tool - Young carers and their families: Confident assessment practice. This identifies common concerns and challenges for young carers and their families, what practitioners need to be aware of, as well as recommending strategies to help build positive relationships.

RiPfA has also developed a Department of Health and Social Care commissioned website featuring open access case studies, films, guidance and tools to enhance understanding of the issues faced both young and adult carers.
