Further places available on Practice Supervisor Development Programme

Senior colleagues in local authorities are invited to nominate participants who would benefit from being part of the Practice Supervisor Development Programme.

Research in Practice, together with consortium partners, are delivering a national Practice Supervisor Development Programme (PSDP) funded by the Department for Education. The programme aims to provide high-quality continuous professional development for up to 1,000 newly-appointed Practice Supervisors. These are social workers taking up their first role in which they are responsible for supporting and developing the practice of others and who have been in their role for less than twelve months. Currently over 300 Practice Supervisors have taken part.

The PSDP is now entering its second phase with an additional places available for Practice Supervisors. Senior colleagues in local authorities are invited to nominate participants who would benefit from being part of this programme.

Each local authority across England has been allocated a maximum of three spaces on the second phase programme, in addition to allocations agreed for phase one delivery, which includes five days of face-to-face teaching delivered regionally, alongside small development group sessions, 1:1 telephone coaching and a programme of self-directed study. A four to six week break between cohort sessions also allows for reflection and cementing of learning.

The programme reflects, but is not limited to, the requirements of the Knowledge and Skills Statements, as well as complementing the wealth of existing continuous professional development activity in this field. Research in Practice and consortium partners, including The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation TrustUniversity of Sussex and Goldsmiths, University of London, are working with a number of skilled ‘local delivery partners’ comprising universities, Teaching Partnerships and trusted providers in every region.
