A systematic review commissioned by DfES of 53 published and 61 unpublished reports from 1990 onwards in English in order to evaluate the effectiveness of external contributors (anyone other that a teacher at the school) in delivering drug, alcohol and tobacco education (substance use) programmes. The full methodology is laid out in the paper. With over 80% of schools in the UK using external contributor in this field, the paper highlights best practice guidance for their use.
