The Aim of the Development Groups 2007/2010
The aim of the Development Groups was to improve the quality of assessments, planned interventions and direct work undertaken by front-line teams in children and family services. This was achieved by working with front-line leaders to promote their team’s level of awareness and use of messages from research on key topics. The Development Groups built the skills and confidence of these front-line leaders to champion a culture of learning and of challenging the evidence base for current practice in their teams. Together they explored the leadership behaviours and actions required to deliver such a change in the knowledge base and professional standards of teams.
Participants in the Development Groups for 2008 comprised two people from each Authority, one of whom was the Link Officer. The other was a Team Manager or Senior Practitioner with responsibility for developing standards of practice in their team. Three dates were nominated for each region to which two participants were nominated to all three dates. The projects were designed to be clearly linked to the service improvement agenda in the authority and involved using research to improve an existing service or new service initiative. The group meetings involved sessions on leadership, evidence-informed practice, project planning and structured discussion about individual projects. Participants also received ‘between session’ support.
