The Path to Independence: supporting young people move towards emotional, financial and practical independence

Research - in particular research into the views of care leavers themselves – has made evident the fact that young care leavers' transitions to adulthood are 'accelerated and compressed' compared to the experience of young people in the general population. Recent policy initiatives are focused on restructuring services to slow down and extend these transitions so that they might more closely resemble that which most families offer their young people.
