Integrated practice on the front line
This Handbook is for practitioners and managers working on the front line of services to children, families and young people, as well as for those leading the Change for Children agenda or supporting it through training and development.
Whether you have been involved in integrated practice for some time, or it is new, this Handbook offers help in assessing the most pressing issues to address and promote effective integrated practice, and so make a positive difference to children, young people and families.
The Handbook provides a framework for reviewing and evaluating progress with integrated working. It includes self-audit Tools from which you can build an action plan to overcome difficulties or blocks and take the work forward. The Handbook should enable you to link behaviours, systems and changed ways of working to improved outcomes – and help you to be more confident in working with other professions in a way that really makes a positive difference to the lives of children, young people and families.
The Handbook is the result of a Change Project that ran over a period of three years. 38 people from 13 agencies in the RiP network contributed to one or more stages of the project, resulting in this Handbook, which consists of guidance, practical Tools and films in which participants talk about their own experiences of integrated working and using the material in the Handbook.
The Tools and films included in this Handbook can be found here.
In recognition of our role in the wider global community, research in practice donates 25% of proceeds of publication sales to a different international project each year. During 2009 we are supporting Hope and Homes for Children’s project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is working to improve the lives of children without parental care and those at risk of being separated from their families by reforming the child protection system and replacing institutional care with family-based services.
