about the handbooks series close window
Handbooks are a series derived from research in practice Change Projects. They deliver tried and tested methods for practical action to build evidence-informed practice into services for vulnerable children and their families.
The defining features of the handbooks are:
  • that they originate in practical work conducted by practitioners, policy makers and researchers working collaboratively
  • that they are supported by careful review and refinement over at least 18 months
  • that they complement others within the research in practice 'stable' - especially the series of research-based CDs and the peer-reviewed Research Reviews.
Each handbook is peer-reviewed by academics and practitioners in the field.
The full text of each handbook is available here on our website.
Every Partner agency in the research in practice network receives 20 copies of each new handbook at the time of publication. Additional copies may be purchased at half-price.
