Mother and Baby Unit: an appreciative inquiry - research brief.

Action for Children (AfC) – one of our third sector Partners - have published independent research they commissioned on the Mother and Baby Unit (provided by AfC) in HM Prison Service Styal. The research provides new evidence on services for women in custody and their children and provides useful practice findings on improving outcomes within this group and recommendations for those commissioning similar services. Results indicate that the child-centred focus works well and that there is a possible link between the services offered by Mother and Baby Units and a reduction in reoffending.
Action for Children plan to further research the post-release experience.
The full research brief is available here.
