This was the first partnership conference on our current learning programme and the snowy weather did little to deter people from attending the conference and participating in lively discussion. Marian Brandon set the scene for the day giving an overview of learning from the analysis of Serious Case Reviews in England between 2003-2009. Christopher Hall presented on a two-year study, funded by The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), which looked at performance management systems in children’s social care and analysed whether these systems support professional working practices, enabling professionals to make accurate initial assessments. The morning also included presentations from three local authorities who shared their learning from the Serious Case Reviews process: Harningey London Borough Council, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Liverpool City Council.
