Under the Influence? Alcohol and Offending

Price per Unit (piece): £20.00

This Handbook is for any professional who works with young people whose drinking is problematic and associated with offending behaviour. It will also be of interest to any professional working in health, social care or education who wishes to know more about the patterns of alcohol use in young people and practical messages that research suggests may be helpful in interventions.

It is intended to complement national and local strategies on young people’s alcohol use and offending by presenting the messages from research in a practical format.

One of the first research messages to emerge during the course of this project was that because they lack confidence in the subject, professionals often fail to intervene successfully with young people who misuse alcohol and offend. This Handbook is designed to help you as a practitioner to understand the issues, equip you with practical tips to work with this group of young people and feel assured that the interventions suggested in this Handbook are informed by recent research, practice experience and service user views. Throughout, you will find references designed to help you dig deeper into areas in which you are particularly interested.
