Under the Influence? Exploring the links between alcohol use and offending in young people

A Change Project

View the poster for this Change Project (PDF new window)

Starting in March 2007, this 18 month research in practice Change Project is designed to improve the awareness, confidence and knowledge of a wide range of professionals in working with young people who misuse alcohol and offend. This is a joint project with the Cheshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT).
The group aims to develop tools to enable social workers, youth offending teams, healthcare professionals and youth workers to engage more effectively with this specific group of young people.  Research messages around alcohol use and offending in young people will be explored and the group will develop together a tool for effective dissemination of these messages.

Under The Influence? will be based around two pieces of work.  Firstly, a comprehensive literature review has been undertaken that synthesises research messages from a wide range of sources.  Secondly, Cheshire DAAT has recently commissioned a piece of local research highlighting issues of alcohol misusing young people who offend.

It is our aim to involve a wide range of professionals in this Change Project because young people who misuse alcohol and offend are often in contact with many services. The project group will consist of two facilitators and a group of six committed practitioners drawn from the research in practice network.

All venues for Change Project meetings will be in Northern locales.
