Family Group Conferences: developing effective practice and positive outcomes
There is mounting evidence of the positive impact that Family Group Conferences can have upon the lives of vulnerable children. A model of family-led decision-making, FGCs are now recommended in government guidance and are being used increasingly in making safeguarding plans for children and in planning for permanency for those children who cannot remain at home. The FGCs model is also being used to make plans for care leavers, to address anti-social behaviour and offending by young people and to prevent their permanent exclusion from school.
This workshop will look at what research and policy say about how to run effective family group conferences. Drawing on examples of excellent practice from across the field, it will also give an overview of how practice is achieving positive outcomes for all those involved.
An experienced facilitator, with a background in FGC policy development and practice, will lead the workshop. The workshop will include messages from the most up-to-date national and international research.
