Developing a Family Group Conference Service
There is mounting evidence of the positive impact that Family Group Conferences can have upon the lives of vulnerable children. A model of family-led decision making, FGCs are now recommended in regulations and guidance and are being used increasingly in decisions made about children’s lives.
This workshop provides a guide to setting up and sustaining a FGC service and an introduction to evaluation. It includes case study examples of successful services, funding and budgeting for a service, service user involvement and how to run a pilot project. Time will be given to respond to delegates’ individual questions on setting up a service, plus how to access ongoing support and training. Experienced trainers who have first hand knowledge of setting up FGC services will lead this workshop.

Kinship Care
Kinship Care - also known as family and friends care and relative care - is attracting increasing attention as an alternative placement for children in need.
Research shows that 72% of placements with family and friends were still stable after two years of care, but these placements present challenges for children’s services, children and kinship carers. The government’s Children’s Plan (2007) emphasises the importance of family and friends as carers and seeks to create policy that enables kinship placements to take place more frequently.
This conference will look at:
developments in research, policy and practice around kinship care
