management of research in practice

The overall management and accountability arrangements are agreed between the Dartington Hall Trust (Dartington), as the employers carrying ultimate financial and legal responsibility, and the Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS), who represent the major stakeholders - the Partners of research in practice. ADCS acts as the overarching, sponsoring organisation and carries out these responsibilities through a Partnership Board.

  1. Dartington holds formal line management and financial responsibility for research in practice. The Chief Executive Officer, to whom the Director research in practice reports, carries out these functions on behalf of the Dartington Trustees.

  2. Dartington delegates decisions about strategic planning and budgeting, including the workplan, resources and personnel management, to the Partnership Board, who act on behalf of the Partners of research in practice and the ADCS. Director and 2nd tier members of the Partnership Board must be from Partner agencies.

  3. Dartington and the Partnership Board will communicate with each other on matters of concern that cannot be resolved through the agreed accountability routes described here.

  4. The Partnership Board includes Partner agency directors, the Dartington Chief Executive Officer and the Director of research in practice. The research advisors also attend these meetings. All hold relevant academic and research expertise across education, health and social care.

  5. The Partnership Board meets as a whole group twice a year. Additional meetings are held as necessary. Regular contact is maintained between the Director of research in practice and members of the Partnership Board.
